Truth in Advertising
Sunday, April 9, 2006
One of the most depressing things about politics is that politicians lie. I think most of them try to avoid bold faced lies, but bending the truth (like a pretzel) is no problem. Take, for example, the Bush administration advertising an increase in wetlands.
The administration claimed that there was a net gain of 191,800 acres of wetlands since '97. Yet what they counted as wetlands would insult a wetlands creature. Waste water retention ponds? Is that a high quality sanctuary? Golf course water hazards? These are the kinds of things that are now counted as wetlands.
It's no wonder that so many people believe in so many crazy things. How can you tell when our leaders never tell us anything straight.
