Lake Michigan

Being a native of the suburbs of Chicago I can only consider Michigan as my "home" lake. Probably all the more so since I've sailed on it many times (though many years ago) on either the small sailboat my father built, or on the small cat some friends kept at their cabin on the Michigan side.

I've always loved Michigan passionately. Seeing Chicgo at night from the lake is an experience all Chicagoans should make as a mission. Lately however, due mostly to the gems Rob has turned up while e-rumaging, I've been introduced to a more remote side of Michigan.

For a while Superior and Huron had been elevated in my mind to being more beautiful. I see now, however, that this was just a function of finding remote places to camp along these lakes. Now that we've found more remote places on Michigan it has once again moved into favor.

Other than seeing Niagra Falls a few times I have no experience with either Lake Erie or Lake Ontario. My uninformed mind pictures them being much less remote, but perhaps I (or more likely Rob) will turn up some neat camping places along these two smaller lakes, and I'll get a new appreciation for the whole lot of them.
